Food challenges to come Saturday, Feb 27 2010

In my quest for life fulfilment and entertainment I have decided to try to follow in the giant foot steps of the Travel Channel’s host of Man vs. Food, Adam Richman. I am currently looking for opportunities to challenge my gastronomic fortitude. Currently I have tackled the Lindy’s on 4th AZ Hooligan burger and shortly I will go back and test my mettle on their OMG burger. As I move around the state I will keep an ever vigilant eye for the next challenge over the hill. All the journeys through this wonderland of cuisine will be documented, recorded and perhaps studied by those in need of finding their true passion in life. More than likely, I will just take photos. The next few challenges ahead of me are the Gus’s pizza challenge where I will be tackling a 24 inch pizza in under an hour. After my hopeful slaying of the pizza dragon it will be back down to Tucson to face down the OMG burger. On March third it looks like I will try to take part in the battle of the bone 3 at the Native New Yorker. This challenge I will not be alone, I have a running mate to compete in this event. So with the eyes to the horizon I will be eternally on the lookout for the next BIG thing. So if you know of a challenge or have competed in one yourself please throw the tip my way. Alright folks, happy eating!

Questions & Anwsers Sunday, Feb 7 2010

So this blog will be short. I have decided to set up a page called Photo Advice for people to ask questions about Photography. These questions can range anywhere from technical advice to equipment advice. I want it to work as an open forum for people to get and share advice. No comments will be moderated unless they are off topic, vulgar or counter productive. I want people to feel they can get a polite answer for any of their questions or concerns. So if you want to know how to spice up your pics for publication, or what type of camera and lens setup you need for shooting the family christmas card, the answers shouldn’t be far away. Everyone is invited to throw in their two cents. Just remember there always is someone out there who might know more than you or someone who has experienced your particular problem. If I don’t know the answer to your problem, I will make sure to find one for you. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for all. So get out there and start shooting!

Amazement Saturday, Feb 6 2010

Last night I decided to take my new friend (who is still nameless) out for a  little test drive. the night started at the Phoenix Art museum, they were hosting a free evening with live music and drinks. this part of the evening was not that exciting but the music was good and the company was better. After the art museum a few friends and I headed down the first friday lane. The recent change in setup for First Friday left me feeling a little sad. It seems this is just a social gathering now and not about art anymore. After 30 min of trying to fight the crowds like a salmon swimming up-stream we decided to try to find a bar that we could go have a drink and chat among our selves. The Roosevelt is where we ended up. The Roosevelt is mostly lit only by candles and extremely dim lighting ,which makes for a quaint atmosphere. this though is where the real test drive of my camera began. I was completely amazed at the quality of images I took from such a low light enviroment with no flash. the new sensors and light monitoring features completely took my breath away, although I might have had a few too many adult beverages. I now have a few images here for your perusal and you can decide if the camera is really that awesome or was I just a bit drunk.

Goodbye old friend, Hello new friend. Friday, Feb 5 2010

Last saturday, I had my truck stolen. Inside my truck was one of my most prized possession , my camera (being that I am a photographer) .The camera I had was an old Cannon 20d. This was a great camera, hard-working, reliable ,easy to use  and even with its 8.6 mega pixels of sadness it still took phenomenal photographs, or at least I did .

I loved this little guy, I took him every where . Shows ,the beach , backpacking and even to some of my more famous food challenges. Now the time comes to mourn his passing and give respect to the great little worker he was. I have to look back on this time with happiness not a sense of regret, I don’t think he would have wanted that.

Now that this period of mourning is over I have now met my new friend. Today I went out and bought myself a little gift. I purchased a Cannon EOS 5D mkII . Oh my god what a camera! This new guy makes my old camera look like a childs camera.  21.1 mega pixels and full frame sensor alone made this bad boy worth every one of the 3700 dollars I spent on it .

I have a feeling my new friend and I are going to become quite intimate over the next few weeks and months . I can’t even imagine what new wonders I will discover and explore. although my sense of loss was grand for my old little buddy I feel that quickly waning as the new camera is filling that great hole of sadness that once was left.

As the weeks continue I will post some of my favorite photographs from my old camera. I will also be sure to let this new guy’s voice sing loud and clear as well. In the end can a new camera really replace the tried and true friend, the comfort of an old lover ? Well I bet that will all soon be a distant memory and a thing of the past. well here’s looking forward to a new beautiful and bright future with the MKII .   ..Oh any thoughts on what I should name him?
